Soccer

saa · kr

The sport is about two teams trying to score a goal using your feet, head, or other body parts except the hands. The thrill of the sport comes from being able to play it anywhere with little equipment. There is also scoring goals, doing cool tricks with the ball, and playing with your teammates and friends.

How to Play

In soccer, two teams of 11 try to score the ball in their goal past the goalie. Goals are scored either by kicking, heading, or hitting the ball without using the arms or hands. Whoever scored the most goals at the end of 90 minutes (Two 45 minute halves) wins.

Sports Role(s)

  • Goalkeeper- protects the goal. The only player allowed to use their hands.
  • Center defenders- defend the center of the field from the opponent’s attackers.
  • Outside defenders- defend the wide parts of the field. Can join the attack as well.
  • Defensive midfielder- protects the defense from any attacks. Can stay back when the team is attacking.
  • Center midfielder- all-rounded player who joins the attack and helps on defense.
  • Attacking midfielder- more attacked-minded player who takes different positions and spaces. Can help defend as well.
  • Outside midfielder or forward- play on the wide part of the field. Usually crosses the ball or can shoot.
  • Center forward or striker- main attacker who plays on the last line of the opponent’s defense.

Equipment Requirements

  • Soccer ball.
  • Two goal nets.
  • Cleats are bladed and have cone-shaped studs to provide traction on the grass.
  • Shin guards protect the player’s shins from getting bruises and hurt.
