Roller derby is a fast paced roller blading contact sport.

The objective of roller derby is each team is trying to score more points than the opposition. Points are awarded when the offensive player, the jammer, laps members of the opposing team. However, the opposing team can use their defense, the blocker, to block the offensive player of the opposing team.

• The jammers who are the offensive players who are trying to lap the opposing team to score points.
• The blockers are the defensive players trying to block the jammers of the opposing team from lapping them.

• A helmet to protect the players in case they fall or bump into each other.
• Mouth guard to protect their teeth against any aggressive pushing.
• Wrist guards to protect the player's wrist when they fall or when they are trying to shove other players.
• Elbow pads to protect the player’s elbows when they fall.
• Knee pads to protect the player’s knees when they fall.
• Quad skates

Nicole, also known as Bonnie Thunders, is considered one of the greatest skaters in the modern roller derby. She is known by some people as the “LeBron James” of roller derby. In her early years Nicole was a soccer player and eventually became a synchronized skater. After moving to New York City she traded her ice skates for roller skates. In 2006 she successfully got placed in the Gotham Girls Roller Derby on the Bronx Gridlock team and became Rookie of the year. She went on to the All Stars and in 2008 won the WFTA Championships as the most valuable player award. She also won the Gotham’s Best Jammer award in 2007-2013.
