Powerlifting is a strength sport where a lifter will complete the squat, bench press and deadlift.

How to Play

The objective of powerlifting is to lift the most amount of weight possible in the squat, bench press, and deadlift in a specific weight and age category. The lifter who lifts the most weight wins.

Equipment Requirements

  • Powerlifting underwear because compression shorts or boxers are not allowed.
  • Weights
  • Wrist straps allow for lifters to hold onto heavier weight.
  • Wrist wraps provide support for the wrist when lifters lifting heavy weights in pressing and overhead lifts.

Mark Henry

Henry is a two-time world champion and two-time Olympian in 1992 and 1996. He is a gold, silver, and bronze medalist at the Pan American Games in 1995 and as a powerlifter he was the WDFPF World Champion also in 1995. He is also a two-time US National Champion and holds the world record in the squat and deadlift. Henry comes from a family where all the men in the family are larger than average and at 10 years old Henry’s mom bought him a set of weights. At the age of 18 he was called “the world’s strongest teenager”. He set teenage lifting world records.
