Hurling is an outdoor team game, which has been played for 3,000 years.

How to Play

The objective of the game is players use a wooden stick called the hurley to hit the ball called the sliotar between the opposing teams goalposts either over the crossbar, which is one point, or under which is three points. The team with the most points wins.

Sports Role(s)

  • Teams consist of either 13 or 15 players.
  • The goalkeeper guards the goal and is trying to prevent the other team from scoring.
  • The half backs help get the ball from the 45 meter line and forward to the midfield. They can help get the ball to the midfield and can be used as the third midfielder.
  • The midfielders are the ones who catch the ball from the other team’s goalkeeper. They are the main link between the defense and the attackers.
  • The Half forwards consist of the right and left forward and the center forward. The right and left forward build attacks and help feed the ball to the full forward and they are the ones taking the shot into the goal. The same goes for the center half forward.
  • The full forwards are the defenders and they are the one responsible for organizing the defense. They are the defense that is in front of the goal.
  • The corner-backs also defend against the attackers.
