Gymnastics is a sport that includes physical exercises. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups.

How to Play

All gymnasts compete in the Team competition, with the score calculated by adding the best 10 scores from the three competing athletes. Each athlete may perform a maximum of four routines and not more than one with each piece of activity.

Sports Role(s)

While there's only one gymnast, they can perform under the six types of gymnastics: Artistic, Rhythmic, Trampoline, Power Tumbling, Acrobatics, and Aerobics.

  • Artistic: a discipline of gymnastics in which athletes perform short routines on different apparatuses.
  • Rhythmic: a sport in which gymnasts perform on a floor with an apparatus: hoop, ball, clubs, ribbon or rope. The sport combines elements of gymnastics, dance and calisthenics.
  • Trampoline: a recreational activity, acrobatic training tool as well as a competitive Olympic sport in which athletes perform acrobatics while bouncing on a trampoline.
  • Power Tumbling: a gymnastics discipline in which participants perform a series of acrobatic skills down a 25 meters long sprung track.
  • Acrobatics: a gymnastic discipline where partnerships of gymnasts work together and perform figures consisting of acrobatic moves, dance and tumbling, set to music.
  • Aerobics: a competitive sport originating from traditional aerobics in which complex, high-intensity movement patterns and elements of varying difficulty are performed to music.
