A team activity that involves a combination elements of dance and acrobatics along with shouted slogans in order to entertain spectators at sporting events to help encourage enthusiasm among the crowd.

How to Play

The objective is to cheer for their team by entertaining the spectators, while trying to bring enthusiasm to the game or in competition. When cheerleaders are in competition the team with the best routine being judged on tumbling, stunts, pyramids and tosses. To be the best, the skills needed are having good balance, coordination, dexterity, endurance, flexibility, rhythm, strength and tumbling.

There are three main roles for a cheerleader:

  • The bases
  • The flyers
  • The spotters

Equipment Requirements

  • A cheerleading bag to be able to hold all their essential items for traveling
  • Cheerleading uniforms
  • First aid kit
  • Floor mats to inspire safety when they are practicing 
  • Landing mats for when cheerleaders are do flips
  • Pom poms which are used to bring cheerleaders attention on the court or field
