Baseball is a game played with a bat, ball and gloves on a field shaped like a diamond.

How to Play

The objective of the game is to score more points than the other team. The team at bat attempts to score runs by trying to get to all four bases.

Sports Role(s)

  • The pitcher is the one who is throwing the ball to the batter. They stand on the pitcher’s mound in the middle of the diamond field.
  • The catcher is part of the team on the field and they squat behind the batter facing the pitching. They catch the ball when the batter misses.
  • The rest of the team is on the field facing home plate. There are three infielders who are stationed at the bases, a shortstop in the middle of second and third base and three outfielders.
  • The three infielders: first, second and third baseman are in charge of trying to get the opposing teams batter out before the batsman reaches their bases.
  • The three outfielders: left, center, and right catch the balls that fly past the innerfield. They try to prevent home runs.
  • Shortstop is usually positioned between second and third base. They try to tag out the batter who is sliding head first and attempting to get to second base.
