Ballet is a type of performance dance that originated during the Italian Renaissance in the fifteenth century and later developed into a concert dance form in France and Russia. It has since become a widespread and highly technical form of dance with its own vocabulary.
Ballerinas have to perform to the best of their abilities in front of the judges. You can perform your song and dance, however it must be performed through the various styles that are given in ballet. Each judge will score up to 100 points based on the following: technique, performance, musicality/timing, and choreography. With three judges, each contestant can get as high as 300 points.
There are three different ranks in ballet which are corps de ballet, soloist, and principle.
Ballet dancers need leotards, tights, skirts, tutus and pointe shoes in order to perform. Ballet really doesn’t have a lot as far as equipment. Traditional ballet classes use ballet barres, full length mirrors on the walls, and a floor that is supportive and geared toward ballet dancing (one that is not too slick or too sticky).
