Flexibility is determined by the range of motion of a particular joint.

Skill Building

Static stretching, where you’re holding a stretch for 20-30 seconds, is the most popular way to work on flexibility. You can also work on this skill through more dynamic movements. This allows you to stretch at a moving motion. The goal is to slightly over extend your muscles to feel them lengthen apart.

Benefit

Flexibility allows your muscles to improve your flexibility will increase your range of motion, reduces the risk of injury, improves posture, and the ability to move. Flexibility is what provides you the option to perform tasks with greater movement.

Avoid

  • Avoid not stretching. Stretching certain muscles is a good way to increase flexibility but if you avoid those or avoid stretching in general, your muscles will become stiff.
  • Avoid exercising with little range of motion, it will not provide flexibility compared to exercises with wider ranges of motion.

Life Improvements

  • You’ll have a better range of motion. You’ll find more exercises and stretches easier than your peers.
  • You’ll feel less pain. Your muscles will be a lot looser and less tense.
